Princess Eugenie's Hidden Royal Wedding Jewelry Surprise
We're all familiar with the glamorous emerald tiara worn by Princess Eugenie on her wedding day–but did you know that she sneaked more heirloom royal jewels into her reception look?
Today, Princess Eugenie of York celebrates her 34th birthday. In her honor, I’m taking a deep dive today into the history of the bejeweled hair ornaments she wore for her wedding reception in October 2018–jewels that have been in the royal family’s collection since the reign of King William IV.
After Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank made their wedding vows at St. George’s Chapel, they obligingly kissed in front of the press photographers who had gathered by the church’s grand steps before stepping into a carriage for a drive around the streets of Windsor. Afterward, they were treated to a reception hosted by Eugenie’s grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, at Windsor Castle.
As family members raised a toast to the happy couple, Eugenie wore the lovely white wedding gown made for her by the designers at Peter Pilotto. A dazzling diamond and emerald kokoshnik tiara, a legacy from the late Queen Mother that had been loaned specially for the occasion by the Queen, sparkled atop Eugenie’s dark hair. It emeralds looked beautiful with the new diamond and emeralds set in the earrings gifted to the bride by her groom.
